Was motivated to get out and DO something physical this morning rather than sitting on the couch. Y’all, that’s rare for me! So we planned a visit to Rickwood Caverns which is so close its stupid we’ve never been. But $17 a person just wasn’t going to happen. So then we tried to find Welti Falls and couldn’t find where to even get started and I’m not in the kind of shape to just explore for hours...plus I had to pee so bad by the time we had an inkling of where to go we gave up. I was convinced the universe was telling me I should’ve stayed on the couch by this point but we ended up at #avemariagrotto in #cullmanalabama which is another place we’ve never been. It’s an arrangement of miniature structures built by a monk over a forty year span. He used reclaimed and donated materials and the detail is incredible. The pathways are paved so it’s a much easier walk though since it’s along a hillside it can get pretty steep.
I did this full bridge/wheel pose once back in high school and was so impressed with myself. I wasn't very physically active - that definitely wasn't an important focus according to my family and culture - but I always secretly wished I could become some kickass ninja or spy. So when I pulled off this move in high school, I would keep repeating it for any friends who wanted to see!
I haven't been able to do it since... until now! I may be double the age from the first time I pulled off the full move but I'm definitely stronger and maybe even lighter than I was back then! Being able to do things like this pose, heavy lifting, and especially rock climbing 🧗 I never imagined I could really pull any of it off. But with a slow and steady approach, consistency, and lots of effort, I did it! I feel younger and more alive than ever! And man does it feel good!
